Kelsey Bailey: My business internship gave me real life experience

Every year Kettering Health Network comes to Union College to recruit for their internship program. I applied online for the internship and when Kettering came out to interview us I interviewed with Steve Chavez, one of the financial executives. Once I was accepted as a finance and accounting intern, I was then on my way to Dayton, Ohio. This was a ten-week internship and my mornings would start at 8:30. I would work on my projects and then head to meetings with executives and later on in the day I would meet with my supervisor to see how I was progressing in my projects. But we didn’t just work. We had a lot of fun as well. They would take us to baseball games, we’d go to executives’ houses for dinner, we would hang out around town. It wasn’t just work. It was also a lot of fun. I believe internships are very important because you get to apply the knowledge you learned in class into real world experiences. For example, I got to launch the 2020 budget for one of the facilities at Kettering Health. That’s why I believe internships are so important because they help better prepare us to be successful graduates.
